(Katy, Texas) Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 (HCESD 48) announced the transfer of its long-serving heavy-duty flood rescue vehicle, affectionately known as “Sarge,” to the Sealy Fire Department, marking the end of an era for one of the district’s most iconic apparatus.
Originally placed in service in 1967, Sarge has been a dependable part of HCESD 48’s emergency response fleet for nearly six decades. The vehicle has seen countless community deployments, including its most notable during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, when it was utilized in high-water rescue operations across the region.
The transfer ceremony took place this week at HCESD 48 headquarters. Representatives from the Sealy Fire Department, Division Chief Shepard and Firefighter Brasher, arrived to formally take possession of the vehicle and drive it to its new home.
