KATY, Texas — On July 23rd, 2026 at approximately 11:00 AM Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 (HCESD 48) responded to a major motor vehicle crash involving two 18-wheelers at the intersection of the Katy Freeway eastbound and SH 99.
Upon arrival, emergency crews found significant damage to both commercial vehicles. One of the 18-wheelers had left the roadway and fallen from the freeway, creating a complex and hazardous incident scene.
Despite the severity of the crash, only minor injuries were reported. Two occupants were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
HCESD 48 worked alongside Harris County HazMat, HCESD 48 Rehab 3, Community Volunteer Fire Department, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Depart of Transportation safely manage the incident, provide patient care, mitigate hazards, and ensure the safety of the traveling public.
The coordinated response from multiple agencies allowed crews to efficiently stabilize the scene, protect surrounding motorists, and begin the extensive recovery operations required for the damaged commercial vehicles.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the appropriate authorities.
